Huge haul of silver stolen from church as police launch investigation

A large amount of silverware has been stolen from a church on the Cambridgeshire border. 

Hertfordshire Police are investigating a theft believed to have taken place between 3pm and 4.45pm on Saturday (March 7).

A number of items, including two chalices, a silver communion flagon, a silver plate and a box of other silver objects were taken from St Margaret of Antioch Church in Barley, near Royston.

PC Andy Hamilton, of the North Herts Response team, said: “I’d like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in Barley around the church on Saturday to get in touch, similarly if you have any information or have seen the items pictured for sale, please let police know.“

Police believe they were stolen between 3pm and 4.45pm.
