Father Jim Sichko raises $20,000 in gift cards for unpaid TSA workers

Father Jim Sichko, a papal missionary for Pope Leo XIV from Central Kentucky, raised more than $20,000 in gift cards for TSA workers who have missed a full month of pay due to a partial government shutdown.

Sichko launched a 24-hour gift card campaign challenge to support TSA agents working without pay for five weeks.

The response required three boxes for an Amazon worker to deliver.

“I’m very grateful. Look at this, it’s over 20 thousand dollars worth of gift cards,” Sichko said.

Gift cards delivered across multiple airports

Sichko, who flies 300 days a year conducting his papal missionary work, has already distributed $1,000 in gift cards to TSA agents in Cleveland.

“You would have thought they hit the lottery. The respect, the kindness, the appreciation — it was unbelievable,” Sichko said.

He plans to deliver $5,000 worth of gift cards to agents at Bluegrass Airport on Saturday before his flight.

TSA agents at airports in Chicago, Northern Kentucky, Louisville, California, Orlando and Houston will also receive gift cards.

“They have bills to pay, they have mouths to feed, and if they are willing to show up, I’m willing to show mercy and kindness and grace,” Sichko said.

History of helping others

Sichko gave food to TSA agents at Bluegrass Airport during a shutdown last November.

He has also given gift cards to linemen restoring electrical power after a major storm and to victims from a tornado in London last year.

“It once again shows the power and the good use of social media and the good outcomes of what can happen,” Sichko said.

TSA agents are not allowed to receive cash donations.
