A well-known Donegal priest is saying slán to steaks for a new television series.
Fr. Brian Ó Fearraigh, the parish priest of Gaoth Dobhair, will feature in the new RTÉ series Slán go Feoil, which begins on Sunday 16th March.
The series follows a group of devoted meat eaters as they attempt to give up meat for a month.
For Fr. Ó Fearraigh, the challenge came at a particularly difficult time, in the aftermath of a fire at his chapel, St Mary’s, last year.
While Fr Ó Fearraigh is focused on the rebuilding project, he takes on another test of faith by vowing off meat.
Joining him are Manus and Caitríona Kelly from Falcarragh. A real estate agent and farmer, Manus is deeply rooted in local traditions, while retired school principal Catriona is a natural host with a strong community spirit.
Actively involved in their community, they open their home each year for Manus’s annual hunt and for Catriona’s much-loved family dinner gatherings.
Across the four episodes of Slán go Feoil, we’ll see just how central meat is to the daily lives and identities of contributors from Donegal, Kerry, and Belfast.
With guidance from expert nutritionists, chefs, and food enthusiasts, they discover the impact of a plant-based diet, changing their relationship with food along the way.
Engaging, warm, and humorous, Slán go Feoil presents an exploration of vegetarianism that will make for fascinating viewing.
