The 61-year-old economist has officially held the position created under Pope Francis (2013-2025) since 2021, already holding it since 2017 transitionally.
The term of office is five years and can be extended once.
The Office of the General Auditor for Financial Affairs had Pope Francis re-established in 2014.
It shall review the balance sheets of all the authorities and offices of the Holy See and shall report financial irregularities to the Vatican Economic Council where appropriate.
His office works independently and reports directly to the respective pope.
