Fr Carroll has served in a number of local parishes including St Patrick's and Danesfort in recent years.
The Castlecomer native will now hold the title of Monsignor as well as Chaplain to His Holiness.
The recognition follows years of dedicated service to the Diocese of Ossory as Vicar General.
