Cash stolen and damage caused as church in Offaly broken into for a second time

Significant damage was caused and cash was stolen from a church in Offaly which was broken into over the weekend for a second time in less than 16 months.

According to a Go Fund Me page set up to fundraise following the incident, damage was caused to the premises itself, furniture and cameras monitoring the building were destroyed. Cash was also stolen from locked areas.

It says that the incident happened over the weekend adding that the thieves gained access by breaking open a gate and smashing a window at the rear of the building, having 'ripped down' the monitoring camera.

"Once again we have to replace and repair what was lost, and further increase security and surveillance. Any donation you can give to help us achieve this will be greatly appreciated by church and community," it concludes.

As of 3pm on Monday, February 19, over €1,500 had been raised for the church.
