Lough Derg will hold a special day of retreat focusing on living with the aftermath of suicide on Wednesday 21 September.
Now in its fourth year, the Living with Suicide day is open
to anyone affected or bereaved by suicide, those working in the area of
suicide awareness and prevention, those working in schools, clergy
working in parishes, or those in emergency medicine.
Speakers on the day will include Geraldine Kennedy, who will share
her own personal story on being bereaved by suicide, and Conor
McCafferty, co-founder of Zest: Healing the Hurt Ltd in Northern
Ireland, who will speak on ‘Grief after Suicide: The Journey of the
Bereaved Family’.
Conor’s talk will touch on how grief is very
individual and it involves active self-care through the acquisition of
new skills of caring for yourself after emotional injury. His talk will
extend into many other aspects of living with suicide and how to cope
with birthdays, anniversaries and much more.
