Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, the papal Almoner, celebrated Mass on
February 1 in memory of a homeless woman who died in 1983 after she was
refused ambulance service because she was deemed too dirty.
Archbishop Krajewski, who has been asked by Pope Francis to minister to
the street people of Rome, celebrated Mass in the basilica of Santa
Maria in Trastevere, with members of the Sant’Egidio community, who
regularly worship there.
The community organizes an annual Mass to
remember the people who die homeless.
The mass was followed by a
luncheon to which homeless people were invited.
