The Pope greeted each of the parishioners who took part in the live Nativity, most of them dressed as shepherds.
An infant who had been baptized earlier in the day played the part of the newborn Jesus.
After viewing the scene, the Pope encouraged the participants to pray for the children who will be born this year, and also for their grandparents.
