Parents spent €713 on child’s Communion this year

Last month thousands of young girls and boys marked the ceremony with a church service and family celebrations afterwards.

But new figures out today show parents spent an average of €713 on their child’s Communion this year, a slight decrease from last year.

The Ulster Bank survey shows that €163 was the cost of the outfits for the children.

Outfits for other family members cost around €190, up on last year.

Parents are now spending less on parties, which cost around €291 in 2013, while children’s entertainment cost €69, down 20pc.

According to a study by Ulster Bank, Communicants were given an average of €521, up 21pc from last year.
