A meeting of the Kilmore ACP was held in Cavan on 19th February.
Twenty-four priests attended the meeting.
Among the main points raised at the discussions were:
o Disappointment was expressed that the Irish Hierarchy did not, as a
matter of courtesy, meet with the Leadership team of the ACP.
o Much dissatisfaction was expressed about the New English Missal.
o The ACP could give expression to the caring and compassionate
aspect of priestly ministry as outlined by Fr Peter McVerry in his
excellent talk at the Regency Hotel.
o The long wait for clearance from Rome endured by priests who have
been cleared of allegations by civil authorities was described as
totally unjust and as a total disgrace.
o The official attitude of the Church to priests who have left ministry of their own volition came in for severe criticism.
o The determination of the ACP In supporting priests who have had
allegations made against them was highly praised. This is one of the
most important roles of the ACP and it should continue to offer this
support, especially at the legal level.
o Concern was expressed at the silence of the Church on the current
recession and on the hardship that people are now forced to endure.
There then followed a discussion on the suggested agenda for the ACP
meeting with the Bishop and the Council of priests.
Four representatives
were selected to join the ACP Leadership team at that meeting.
