A book written by a former Bishop of Derry is becoming a set to become a Christmas best seller.
The first printing of Bishop Edward Daly's new book A Troubled See is on the verge of selling out, with a second printing in the offing.
Publisher Four Courts Press says that the book has just a few dozen copies left in stock and is expecting a “massive rush” on the book in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Speaking to the local media in Derry, Four Court's sales and marketing chief Anthony Tierney said the book has been a success since its publication in September and a similar scenario is expected in the United States when it goes on sale there in the next few weeks.
He added, “Copies of the book are due to arrive in our US warehouse next week, so we are expecting a big demand from there in the New Year.”
He also said that due to its popularity, booksellers from all over the country are re-ordering copies.
In his latest book, Bishop Daly continues the story from his first book that was entitled Mister, are you a Priest? this was published in 2000.
A Troubled See covers Bishop Daly's life from 1974 to 1993 as well as his current work as chaplain to the Foyle Hospice as well as his years as curate in the Bogside parish.
Bishop Daly was also closely involved with some of the major events of the troubles including the hunger strikes of 1980 and 1981, the case of the Birmingham Six, and the Saville Inquiry.
His book describes the personal impact these events had on him and the challenges of ministering as a Bishop during the conflict.
It also deals with Pope John Paul II visit to Ireland in 1979.
