Dr Ann Louise Gilligan and partner Senator Katherine Zappone are to continue their Supreme Court appeal against a finding that they do not have the right to marry here under the Constitution.
In a weekend statement they said they were “deeply disappointed, though equally respectful of”, last Friday’s Supreme Court decision that they could not amend their statement of claim.
The couple had sought permission to amend their claim to challenge the constitutionality of section 2.2 of the Civil Registration Act 2004, which prohibits marriage between couples of the same sex.
“We will begin immediate consultation with our legal team,” they said, “to determine the best route for a successful outcome.”
