Ind. judge rules Irish priest must be extradited

A federal judge in Indiana has ruled that a Roman Catholic priest should be extradited to his native Ireland to face child molestation charges.

The judge in South Bend rejected 82-year-old Rev. Francis Markey's final attempt to avoid extradition by refusing his request for a writ of habeas corpus that would have freed him from the South Bend jail where he's been held since November.

The U.S. Justice Department has sought Markey's extradition at Ireland's request.

Irish prosecutors charged Markey in 2008, alleging that he raped a 15-year-old boy during a religious pilgrimage in Ireland and again after his father's funeral.

Markey was stripped of duties at a Minnesota church in 1982 after parents complained he was "overly affectionate" with boys.
