Filipino priest is new head of parish church in Sweden

A Filipino Roman Catholic priest has been installed to head a Swedish parish, the Philippines' foreign affairs department reported Tuesday.

In a press statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Father Gabriel Badostamon is the first Filipino to head the Saint Nicolai Church located in Linkopings in Sweden.

Father Baldostamon hails from Marbel, South Cotabato and has been serving the Filipino community in Sweden for several years.

As head of the Saint Nicolai parish, he will be attending to the spiritual needs and pastoral formation of the entire Swedish Roman Catholic community in Linköping where about 2,500 members are registered.

Officiating Fr. Baldostamon’s ceremonial investiture was Monsignor Mirojan Dudek. The mass was co-celebrated by Father John Mc Cormode and Deacon Karl- Erijk Jarerot.

Parishioners at the Saint Nicolai church congratulated the new Filipino parish priest and assured him of their support.

Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson expressed her confidence in Fr. Badostamon’s ability to renew and strengthen the Catholic faith.
