A ROMANIAN family who came under attack in Northern Ireland have won the backing of the Anglican Bishop of Derry, the Rt Rev Ken Good.
The family home was attacked on Sunday evening when paint was thrown through the front window of their house.
Three children were in the house at the time, and one suffered injuries to their foot.
The family moved to Northern Ireland from London a month ago and said they had no idea why they were being attacked in this way.
The Bishop said: “Our hearts go out to the Rostas family today. The citizens of this city want to assure this Romanian family that they are very welcome among us and that we deplore the attack on their home. Those who took it upon themselves to treat this family with such hostility do not reflect what the people of this city think or believe. This is a hate crime which brings shame on those who perpetrated it. It brings sadness to us all and makes us want to redouble our efforts to be a welcoming and compassionate community.”
The Police Service of Northern Ireland are investigating.
