The Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid had claimed that the judicial ordinance in Spain was taking a step backwards with respect to the Declaration of Human Rights.The Organisation Secretary of the PSOE Socialist Party, José Blanco, speaking on Onda Cero radio today has called on the Catholic Church in Spain to rectify a statement made during a rally in support of the family held in Madrid on Sunday.
During the event the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Antonio María Rouco Varela, claimed that judicial ordinance in Spain was taking a step backwards with respect to the Declaration of Human Rights.
José Blanco said that was an extremely serious allegation, and said that those who wanted to be political are in their right to be so, but what they should do is stand as a candidate in the elections.
Blanco described the Madrid rally which saw churchgoers bussed from across the country and Portugal as ‘a Partido Popular event, presided over by some Cardinals’.
Rouca Varela contended that the Declaration of Human Rights recognised and established the family as the natural nucleus and fundamental to society, and it should be protected by society and the State.

Blanco said that was the same P.P. speech and coming two months before the elections wanted to take direct part in the campaigning. He lamented that the Church was carrying out a debate on politics in Spain based on ‘false realities and data’ and noted, for example, that the current law on abortion is the same as when the Partido Popular were in power.
Blanco said that the situation in Spain was already favourable for families, and noted the new baby-cheque introduced by the Government along with new paternity permissions.
Criticism of Sunday’s event has also come from the leader of the left-wing IU, Gaspar Llamazares. He said that the event was organised by the most conservative wing of the Church.
The Spanish Federation of Gays and Lesbians accused the Church of dangerously promoting religious fanaticism.
