California man accuses Catholic church of fraud

A California man has filed a lawsuit accusing the Roman Catholic church of fraud for allowing a priest to work with children in Mexico long after allegations of molestation emerged north of the border.

The man, an alleged victim of abuse, says church leaders promised him the priest would never be around children again.

But three years ago, the man discovered the priest's MySpace page, which said he was serving in Tijuana and working with kids.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, mirrors dozens across the U.S. and could reopen church coffers in California, where dioceses have already paid upward of $800 million to abuse victims.

Church attorneys in California dispute the lawsuit's claims.
