TV talent show producers defend Irish ex-priest's appearance

Producers of the programme "Britain's Got Talent" today defended its broadcasting of an audition by an ex-priest who has a history of disrupting sporting events.

A statement from the show said Irish dancer Neil Horan's past came to light only after his performance.

The defrocked Roman Catholic priest has stormed sporting events, including the Athens Olympics and the Silverstone Grand Prix.

But this did not stop Horan performing on the ITV1 show in an audition broadcast on Saturday which saw him put through by judges.

A statement from the show said: "Neil attended auditions to display his talent at Irish dancing and his past only came to light following his performance.

"At no point during the filming day did Neil show any other motivation to be at the auditions for anything other than dancing.

"Therefore, we felt there was no reason why we shouldn't show Neil's audition."
