Christian Brothers apologise unreservedly for child abuse

The Christian Brothers in Ireland is apologising to all those who were sexually abused and hurt by its brothers.

In a statement issued this evening, the order has apologised openly and unreservedly and says it is ashamed and saddened that many people who complained of abuse were not listened to.

It also says it's committed to ensuring that lessons are learnt from the awful mistakes of the past and from the findings and recommendations of the report.

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate, which ran St Conleth's Reformatory in Daingean in County Offaly, has also issued an apology to all the boys who were hurt while in its care.
