The director of Catholic.net said the Web site is hoping to help bring about the new Pentecost that Benedict XVI prayed for during his trip to the United States.This was the hope expressed by Rosalia Tenorio, the director of the web portal, which is launching a new English version Wednesday.
It is designed to promote interaction and apostolic synergy among Catholics worldwide, through information sharing and online interactive tools.
"Catholic.net aims to serve other apostolates as an online platform to broaden their outreach," Tenorio said. "The unique service that catholic.net provides is that we go beyond teaching the faith to actually allowing users to share and support each other in their struggles as they apply Church teaching to their daily lives. Our users are vital content-providers in this sense."
"We are very much shaped by what Pope John Paul II asked of us, that our online ministry goes beyond the computer screen to evangelize the social world," Tenorio added. "Through Our Lord's providence, our English upgrade comes right after Pope Benedict XVI called the Church to a new Pentecost. It is our prayer that Catholic.net may effectively serve the Church to that end."
Some of the new editorial offerings on Catholic.net include: questions-and-answers on Church teaching, proactive advocacy for the pro-life cause and protection of the family, Scriptures, Church documents, daily saints, traditional Catholic prayers, devotionals, news and mainstream media watch, live online radio and formation on righteous stewardship.
Sometimes controversial topics like the defense of human life and family, chastity, homosexuality, parenting, genuine femininity, godly male leadership, and environmental preservation will also be addressed.http://www.catholic.net/index.php
