Rome police reverse approval for Gay Pride rally near basilica

Police in Rome have decided not to allow a Gay Pride Parade to end with a rally outside the basilica of St. John Lateran.

Il Giornale
reports that the police department, which in April approved plans to conclude the June 7 homosexual event in the cathedral square, reversed its decision because the basilica would be hosting a choral concert the same evening.

The police department suggested that the homosexual rally could be seen as a “provocation."

The president of the homosexual activist group Arcigay, Aurelio Mancuso, commented, “This is unacceptable.”

It is not uncommon for the square next to the Lateran basilica to be the site of Communist protests in Rome.
