Papal Visit Expected to Cost Archdiocese $3 Million

Officials at the Archdiocese of Washington say next month's visit by Pope Benedict XVI will cost the archdiocese at least $3 million.

Archbishop Donald Wuerl says that estimate includes costs for security and transportation for the pope and the cost of the April 17 Mass at Nationals Park.

Wuerl is turning to private donors to cover the costs rather than use archdiocese funds. So far, he says his appeals to donors are getting positive results.
