Ireland: Nine Ordinations To The Diaconate

On Sunday, nine students from the national seminary, St Patrick's College, Maynooth, were ordained to the Diaconate by the Most Reverend Anthony Farquhar DD, Auxiliary Bishop of Down and Connor.

The ceremony took place in the College Chapel at St Patrick's College, Maynooth.

The new deacons are: Seán Corkery and Gerard Cremin from Cloyne Diocese; John Coughlan from Elphin; Stephen Crossan from Dromore; Vincent Cushnahan and Peter McGurnaghan from Down and Connor; Tomás Kehoe from Ferns; Michael Kelly from Dublin and Billy O'Sullivan from Cork & Ross.

Describing the ordinations as a joy for staff and students alike, Monsignor Dermot Farrell, President of St Patrick's, said: "The ordinations have taken place on the Feast of Pentecost. My prayer is that the profound exchange of gifts which we have witnessed in the Diaconate Ceremony in Maynooth will bear great fruit under the power of the Holy Spirit."
