Bishop Chukwu passed on after a health complication that developed after an unsuccessful surgical procedure.
The appointment of Bishop Obodo, currently serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu was made public by the Apostolic Nuncio in Nigeria in a letter dated April 12.
Bishop Obodo was born in Awha-Imezi in Ezeagu local government of Enugu State on October 24, 1966.
He was ordained a Priest on 22 July 2000 for the Catholic Diocese of Enugu after completion of his philosophy and theology studies and training at both the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Nsude and at the Bigard Memorial Major Seminary in Enugu.
In the early years of his priesthood, he served as a Vicar at Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Ugwuagor from 2000 to 2001.
He later became the Parish Priest of St. Charles Parish, Amechi Idodo, where he ministered from 2001 to 2004.
Between 2004 and 2009, Bishop Obodo held several responsibilities, including serving as a formator at St. Bernard’s Seminary in Nchatancha, secretary of the diocesan clergy, chaplain of the St. Jude Society, and a member of the diocesan Commission for History.
From 2010 to 2016, he pursued doctoral studies in theology at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. After completing his studies and returning to Nigeria, he was appointed rector of St. Bernard’s Seminary and also served as a lecturer at Bigard Memorial Seminary in Enugu.
In May 2018, Bishop Obodo was appointed the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and was also appointed the Titular Bishop of Mediana.On August 31, 2018, he was appointed the Titular Bishop of Mediana.
