Priest who used child to satisfy “foot fetish” to be sentenced

A CATHOLIC priest and self-proclaimed exorcist who worked as a youth leader in Jersey is due to be sentenced today for committing multiple acts of gross indecency against a child.

Piotr Antoni Glas, known as Peter when his Polish name is Anglicised, committed the crimes while he was working for the Catholic Deanery in the Island.

During a seven-day trial in the Royal Court in April, a jury heard that Glas had a “foot fetish” and had used the child to satisfy this.

Among his crimes were holding his face to the child’s feet while masturbating on a number of occasions.

After two days of deliberation, Jurors returned guilty verdicts on three counts of gross indecency.

Detective Constable Caroline Foord, the officer in charge of the investigation, described Glas’s behaviour as “manipulative and controlling”.

Following the verdict, the Bishop of Portsmouth apologised for what happened and stressed that the Diocese has “robust safeguarding standards, policies and procedures” and that all allegations of abuse are reported to the relevant authorities.

The Diocese is committed to creating safe spaces for everyone, the Bishop said, adding: “This is a primary focus for all our clergy and people, one that is mandated by the Lord Himself.”
