Historic Sligo church reveals restored 1850s stained glass windows after major project

Lissadell Church of Ireland will host a Service of Dedication on Sunday, 8th June marking the restoration of its historic stained glass east windows and honouring the generosity of the local community.

The stained glass windows, crafted in the 1850s by William Warrington & Son of London and originally commissioned by the Gore-Booth family of Lissadell House, are among the oldest of their kind in a religious setting in Ireland.

In 2023, they were conserved by Connon Stained Glass, thanks to funding from the Heritage Council, Sligo County Council, and the support of local donors.

The service also pays tribute to those who contributed to the emergency repair of collapsed stone masonry in 2023, which left the church unusable for several months.

The resilience and generosity of the local community made it possible to reopen and restore this cherished place of worship.

The service held at 10.30am to catch the sunlight through the east windows, will be followed by refreshments at the Lissadell Centre, just across the road.

Everyone is to attend and donations to the Church Repair Fund are always appreciated, as continued support is vital to safeguarding Lissadell Church for future generations.
