The Executive Committee of the Polish Bishops' Conference has issued an official statement expressing its rejection of the new school curriculum entitled "Health Education," which will replace the subject "Family Life Education" starting in September 2025.
The bishops denounce its content as contrary to family and Christian values.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, elected in 2023, has promised to advance progressive legislation in Poland. Although he failed to promote an abortion law, as part of his coalition refused to follow his lead, he is nonetheless determined to continue in this direction.
It is true that the war situation on the country's border has put many problems into perspective.
A new angle of attack focuses on education.
The Polish Bishops' Conference published a letter addressed to the Catholic faithful, expressing its concern about the introduction into the education system of the new compulsory curriculum entitled "Health Education," scheduled to come into effect on September 1, 2025.
The bishops first note that "the propaganda spread by certain media outlets emphasizes that health education concerns students' health, while a significant portion of this subject focuses on 'sexual health,' the aim of which is to completely change the perception of family and love."
Sexuality Dissociated from Marriage
The bishops note that "the theme of sexuality is dissociated from the context of marriage and family."
Furthermore, "marriage is almost absent here, while the family, understood as the father, mother, and children, is completely marginalized." Furthermore, "motherhood is presented as a source of danger."
The conclusion is that "such an approach to human sexuality threatens the normal development of children and calls into question the demographic future of our country."
According to the new principles, "students must be exposed to eroticization from an early age." "Sexuality is dissociated from marriage and presented as a form of liberation."
Introduction of the Concept of Gender
The introduction of the concept of gender "does not help young people accept their biological sex." It "encourages children and adolescents to reject their femininity or masculinity," and to "the identification of girls as boys and boys as girls." This path can lead to "sex reassignment" surgery, an irreversible mutilation of the body and a great tragedy for young people and their families.
The bishops reiterate that this vision of sexuality and gender "is incompatible with the Polish legal system."
Because "the Constitution clearly emphasizes that marriage, family, motherhood, and fatherhood are protected by the state." Polish law "unambiguously recognizes the existence of two sexes: male and female."
Thus, this education violates all these legal provisions and, in the long term, aims to change Polish law regarding the family and gender. This view "clearly destroys the foundations of education" and Polish culture. Finally, they recall that the Church teaches that sexuality must serve marital love and parenthood, and that marriage and family complement each other in the work of God.
Appeal to Parents
In conclusion, the bishops make a direct appeal to parents, reminding them of their moral responsibility before God in the education of their children.
"You must not accept the systematic depravity of your children under the pretext of health education," they state.
They ask parents not to allow their children to participate in these immoral activities.
