Sharing an update on Pope Francis' health, Vatican city said "These therapies, at present, show further, gradual improvements" and Pope is gradually recovering from double pneumonia.
The 88-year-old pontiff is slowly improving and has reduced his reliance on mechanical ventilation during the night to aid his breathing.
Pope Francis was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on 14 February after complaining difficulty in breathing. Notably, Pope has a history of lung infections.
His absence from public appearances marks the longest since he became pope 12 years ago. He will miss weekly prayers with pilgrims again this Sunday for the fifth consecutive week.
Pope's Health Progress
The Vatican stated that Francis continues to receive medical treatments, including respiratory physiotherapy and physical therapy to improve his mobility.
In addition to these treatments, he is receiving oxygen therapy in the hospital.
The need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night is being gradually reduced as part of his recovery process.
Ongoing Medical Updates
The Vatican has not specified when Pope Francis might be discharged from the hospital, noting that his recovery remains slow.
Medical updates are now being issued every few days instead of twice daily as before.
As a young adult, Francis suffered from pleurisy and had part of one lung removed. Despite his current health challenges, he continues to work from the hospital.
Future Plans Amid Health Challenges
On Saturday, it was announced that earlier in the week, Pope Francis approved a new three-year process for considering reforms within the global Catholic Church.
This decision indicates his intention to continue leading despite his health issues.
"The clinical conditions of the Holy Father have remained stable, confirming the progress seen in the last week," said the latest update on Pope Francis's health condition.
