Hartford priest accused of stealing money speaks out

Father Charles Jacobs from Holy Trinity Catholic Church finally spoke out against the allegations.

Father Jacobs was placed on administrative leave at the end of January for allegedly stealing money from the church for personal use.

Many parishioners have been outspoken in their support for Father Jacobs.

Yet the archdiocese said he claims he stole to give to the poor.

In response, Father Jacobs released the following statement.

“After serving the parish of Holy Trinity for 23 years, to now find myself facing these allegations—especially during Lent—hits me right in the heart. This is a time for prayer, fasting and works of charity, yet I am left with deep sorrow.

Let me be absolutely clear: Never have I used church funds for my personal use. Every dollar entrusted to this parish has been used to support its mission—helping the poor, the homeless, the addicted, and those in need. My only goal has always been to serve God and this community with integrity, compassion, and unwavering faith.”
