CWI : Operation Laonia (41)

Fintan, we have re-published the article in relation to Fr Jerry Carey 4 years on from his being criminally convicted for wanking in public....and yet he remains a priest in the Diocese of Killaloe.

Any chance you would answer or address the following questions....

When did the canonical investigation take place?

What was the result?

Why has his laicisation not been sought?

....or should we expect to be told to go ask him ourselves as seems to be your standard issue response in relation to other clergy you have so blatantly wronged thus far?

Will he continue to be involved liturgically with the upcoming Chrism Mass?

You have laicised other priests for a lot less, and even on the basis of lies of others....and yet here we have further evidence of your double standards in action.

We have learned further of your behaviour in your time in Tuam, and that would be a lot more interesting and explosive than what we have to hand as is....but we like to keep our powder dry...for now.

In that regard Fintan, are 2 of your lackies - Daddy Ryan and the invisble parish priest Ger Jones, concocting some form of Goebbels-esque type response / retaliation to us here in CW?

An employee of the local radio station in Ennis was seen being wined and dined with them just yesterday, and we must wonder is it a matter of containment and control of the s**tshow that is going to be released further into the public domain via this site in relation to you that merited such dining?

Or is it an attempt to silence one of the journalists that, alongside another, met you and asked you some awkward questions about your forging of paperwork for laicisations submitted to Rome?

Were they acting 'in persona episcopi' as Daddy Ryan so recently claimed when admonishing a priest recently?

Don't worry Fintan, no matter what angle you take on this, the truth about you and indeed your lackies will come out....and no wining and dining of journalists and their bosses will silence us here.

Your arrogance and hypocrisy was also further evidenced by your call to the people of the Diocese of Killaloe yesterday in relation to urging the faithful to pray for the victims of abuse....

It's amazing you didn't choke on those words as you uttered them considering the abuse you have meted out in your time - whether it be in Tuam or Killaloe - whether verbally, psychologically, abuse of the office of the See of Flannan via forging paperwork, calumny and the list goes on ad nauseam - all evidenced!!

When will you acknowledge the hurt and upset you have caused Fintan,  by believing a woman who was hell bent on "getting even" for something she perceived had been done to her and yet for which she produced no evidence,  except for "a big volume of text msgs"?

Yet, when evidence to the contrary was offered to a professional in the pay of the Diocese of Killaloe, he refused to look at it.

We also published a minor part of our evidence Fintan, clearly indicating the lies being told to you - and regrettably not investigated by you.

The Gardai had to visit you in relation to that issue, and no doubt you still ignored the incontrovertible evidence they presented to you.

We are happy to meet you in the offices of our solicitor, or as you are aware, we may do so in a courtroom yet.

A priest and school chaplain who was convicted of masturbating in a car beside a popular Galway beach on a bank holiday would not comment on the incident.

Fr Jerry Carey, who has been a priest based in Co Clare since 1984, pleaded guilty this week to intentionally engaging in offensive conduct of a sexual nature at Blackrock in Salthill on August 3 last year.

He was given a one-month prison sentence which was suspended in full.

Fr Carey has stood down as chaplain to Coláiste Muire all-girls secondary school in Ennis and also stood down from ministry.

As well as being school chaplain he had been the parish priest of Doora-Barefield in the Diocese of Killaloe.

The Sunday World made numerous attempts to contact Fr Carey about the conviction yesterday but he did not respond to requests for comment.

His solicitor said his client felt deeply ashamed and was "shocked and remorseful" of his own behaviour. In a previous interview speaking about being a priest Fr Carey previously talked about the aloneness that comes with celibacy.

"There is at times a feeling of aloneness, due to celibacy. This is not the same as loneliness as I know many people who are married become quite lonely. In a way this can be a good thing allowing for a lot more reflection on what is happening."

Fr Carey was heavily involved in his local community and would travel with dozens of young people from Co Clare on an annual week-long pilgrimage to Taizé in France followed by a trip to Disneyland Paris. He was also involved in the annual Cycle against Suicide.

Bishop Monahan issued a statement this week saying Fr Carey "has sincerely apologised for his behaviour and deeply regrets the damage caused by his actions".

"As bishop of Killaloe, I acknowledge the upset and distress caused to his parishioners, the priests and the many people to whom he ministered in the diocese.

"On behalf of the diocese I wish to apologise for the hurt caused by this crime and what is highly unacceptable behaviour.

"Once the incident came to light, Fr Carey stood down from ministry and immediately engaged in a therapeutic course of assessment and counselling, which continues.

"Once the criminal proceedings are concluded a canonical process will follow. If there is anyone who has been affected by any of these issues, you are encouraged to contact the diocese or relevant authorities".
