"The final results of every popular election must always reflect the
virtues of justice and the value of transparency. Political
institutions have to guarantee them and build trust, the foundation of
any civilized coexistence and real democratic order. Ecuadorian people
do not want to be disappointed".
This is what the Ecuadorian Episcopal
Conference said in a statement sent to Agenzia Fides.
According to data collected by Fides, on Sunday, February 19, 12 million
Ecuadorians went to vote, but we still have to wait for the results of
these general elections.
A first assessment of the National Electoral
Council (CNE) reports that presidential candidate LenÃn Moreno is
leading with 39.15% of the votes while Guillermo Lasso has 28,40%. This
leaves open the possibility of a runoff.
The CNE has asked for five days
to officially give the results, but the tension among the population
increases.
