The Catholic Diocese has dismissed accusations
that it's intervening in politics.
This follows its publication of an
urgent call for the government to consult the public on universal
suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017.
The newspaper article said that citizens should not be deprived of the
right to choose their own leaders, otherwise it would amount to "a grave
injustice and violation of fundamental rights".
However, the diocese's Vicar-general, Michael Yeung, said the statement
by no means indicated the church supported the Occupy Central movement.
He said that instead of confrontation, the church wants to see all sides
communicating on the issue, RTHK reports.
