Poland's newest archbishop has appealed for greater social sensitivity to inequality and exclusion in his country.
"I regret that Catholic social teaching has been so much ignored here
in recent years, after providing such inspiration at the start of
Poland's [post Cold War] transformation," said Archbishop-elect Jozef
Kupny whom Pope Francis named last weekend to head the western Polish
archdiocese of Wroclaw.
"We urgently need to reshape the sensitivity of
Christians to social issues. This should be a great area of church
mission today, especially for lay people and in a time of crisis."
Poland's child poverty rates are the EU's highest and family life is among the least subsidised in the EU.
