The diocese of Ferns launched a new vocations website on Sunday May 15 in conjunction with Vocations Sunday.
In a statement this week, the Ferns Diocesan office said, “Mass
goers in the Diocese of Ferns have been praying a Diocesan prayer for
vocations over the past number of weeks and promotional material and
posters on vocations has been distributed throughout the Diocese. The
new website is designed to complement these efforts and to answer any
questions that might arise on the subject.”
It also provides contact information for those who wish to have the
opportunity to talk things over with the vocations director in the
Diocese.
As well as addressing some frequently asked questions on the subject
of vocations the new website also includes testimony from clergy and
clerical students in the diocese to persuade potential new recruits to
the priesthood.
Currently the vocations director for the diocese is the
parish priest of Crossbeg parish, Fr Jim Finn, while Fr Odhran Furlong,
who is currently curate in Rathgarogue, is the creator of the new
vocations website and who will also update it.
The diocese is no stranger to adapting to modern methods of
communication.
Last year Barntown curate Fr John Carroll created a
Facebook site for his parish, which currently has almost 700 friends.
The new vocations website can be accessed at www.fernsvocations.ie.
