Fr Aidan Troy to take up new role in Paris

The well-known Belfast-based priest Fr Aidan Troy is to move to Paris to take up a new role with a parish of English-speakers in the French capital.

Fr Troy, who came to global attention during the loyalist blockade of Holy Cross primary school in north Belfast, has been asked the make the move by the Passionist Order, in which he serves.

The Co Wicklow native arrived in Belfast just as the Holy Cross girls' school dispute was reaching a crescendo.

As chairman of the school governors, he accompanied the young children to and from school as they braved loyalist jeers, missiles and even a blast bomb.
