Temporary injunction on Diocesan files

Cardinal Desmond Connell's legal team has gone to the High Court to stop the Commission investigating Clerical Child Sexual Abuse in Dublin from examining certain documents from Diocesan files which they say are legally privileged.

Lawyers for the Cardinal today secured a temporary injunction to be reviewed on Monday.

The injunction restrains the commission from examining the documents to decide whether they attract legal privilege and/or a duty of confidentiality.

It is believed the documents include legal advice to the diocese following claims of child sexual abuse as well as insurance policies in relation to child abuse claims.
