The Dalai Lama will visit the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane tomorrow as part of his 11-day tour of Australia.
The 71-year-old spiritual leader will launch Kindness Week at Australia Zoo before delivering a public speech in Brisbane on "Compassion and Kindness."
Long-time friend of the Irwin family, John Stainton, says the Dalai Lama planned his Sunshine Coast visit last year to meet wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin.
He says after Steve Irwin's death, the Dalai Lama still wanted to come.
"He's visiting Australia Zoo as a special treat," Mr Stainton said.
"He wanted to meet Steve last year when it was organised and now that we don't have Steve, he wanted to come out and meet Terri and Bindi especially.
"It's a great honour for them and for the zoo to have his presence here, it's just fantastic - I mean wow - what a man."
