The Shalom Prize, which goes to those who promote peace in world, was awarded to Bishop Joseph Coutts of Faisalabad, Pakistan, for his unwavering commitment to interfaith dialogue, peace and development of the Pakistani community.
The prize includes a plate and a cash award of not less than €5.000 which were given to the prelate during a solemn ceremony held on Sunday at the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Bavaria.
The bishop, who also heads Caritas Pakistan, celebrated a thanksgiving mass the same night in the university chapel.
During the homily he remembered the feast of St John the Baptist and took advantage of the opportunity “to stress the prophetic role played by the Church which speaks to defend justice and proclaim the Gospel to the world.”
