Fr Anthony Hartnett is ordained as Donegal’s newest priest

Fr Anthony Hartnett was officially ordained as Donegal’s newest priest at a ceremony in Letterkenny yesterday.

The ceremony at St Eunan’s Cathedral was well-attended as Fr Hartnett was confirmed as the latest priest to serve in the Raphoe Diocese.

Former Bishop of Raphoe Alan McGuckian returned to the diocese to lead the ordination ceremony.

A large crowd of family, friends and members of the community gathered for the ceremony, which for Anthony has been long-awaited.

Originally from Wicklow, he and his family moved to Donegal a decade ago, and he went to pursue the priesthood beginning his studies at Maynooth in 2016.

Now living in Stranorlar, he was ordained a Deacon there last September at the Church of Mary Immaculate.

Bishop McGuckian described the ordination as “a beautiful and joyus” day, and said that he was glad he could return to the diocese to officially ordain Fr Hartnett.
