Leeds church issues statement after huge fire engulfs building

Diocese of Leeds Learning

The Anglican Diocese of Leeds has commented on a 'distressing incident' after a fire ripped through a church hall in Armley.

The church hall opposite St Bartholomew's Church, Wesley Road, previously known as St Bartholomew's Parish Hall & Social Club, went up in flames earlier today (Monday, February 12).

Thick black smoke billowed through the streets for miles around, resulting in a road closure.

Five crews from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue had to be dispatched to fan the flames with the whole building affected

The diocese has said fortunately there were no injuries and the source of the fire is being investigated.
