Two climate stickers sentenced to prison in the Vatican have lodged an appeal.

As the daily newspaper "il Giornale" reports, the appeal hearing before the Vatican criminal court is scheduled for this Thursday.

The two Italian environmental activists, a young woman and an older man, had glued themselves to the plinth of the world-famous Laocoon group in August 2022.

The ancient group of figures is one of the mainactions of the Vatican Museums.

On 12 June 2023, the Vatican court sentenced them in the first instance to a suspended prison sentence for damage to property.

Supporters of the two have now called on the court to acquit the activists on social media.

As justification, they pointed out that they had based their protest on Pope Francis' calls for climate protection.
