The Secretariat for Childhood, Adolescence and the Family had to assist
cases of sexual violence and child abuse, abandonment and neglect of
relatives last year. Also in 2016, the number of street children doubled.
"Almost double, 325 children identified constantly on the road, some appear in the evenings or at certain times", said a statement sent to Fides by the heads of the technical area of the Secretariat.
Experts have highlighted the importance of a law to establish the figure of a Child Advocate: "Lawyers for minors, criminal defenders and alternative measures to imprisonment are needed".
