PERU - "The country wants the truth": the Bishops on corruption and the Sodality of Christian Life

The Episcopal Conference of Peru, at the conclusion of the 109th Ordinary Assembly, issued a statement, also sent to Fides, in which it expressed solidarity with the victims of natural disasters which happened a few days ago near the capital due to the rains, and denounces the corruption that the media are making the public aware of.

"We are concerned about corruption involving large national and foreign financial companies such as Odebrecht and senior officials of the country. We hope that the judiciary can move forward with strength and determination to learn the truth. We reject any form of corruption", the text reads.

The Bishops also stressed the demand for justice and truth on the case of societies of apostolic life "Sodality of Christian Life", founded in Peru and also abroad: "We agree with everyone who wants to know the truth about the charges against several members of the Sodality of Christian Life. We are in solidarity with the victims and expect appropriate compensation. We want the decisions of civil courts to be fair and we look forward to a prompt response of the ecclesiastical court", recalls the note. Finally, this year 2017 we celebrate the 400 years since the death of Saint Rosa.da Lima, saint and patroness of Peru.
