At their fall meeting, the bishops of Argentina have discussed the
pastoral care of families, poverty, and national reconciliation.
Using Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia
as a guide, the bishops discussed marriage preparation, the pastoral
accompaniment of married couples, and the pastoral care of those in
broken marriages.
As they discussed the eighth chapter of Amoris Laetitia, “a
dialogue was conducted on how to grow in criteria and attitudes to
achieve a greater consensus among pastors on the new realities that
present themselves in the pastoral care of families,” according to the
bishops’ conference.
The bishops’ national discussion comes two months after the bishops
of the Buenos Aires region gathered to discuss the document, and Pope
Francis endorsed an interpretation that would allow those remarried
outside the Church to receive Holy Communion in some cases.
