CLERGY who were shocked by the Cloyne Report into clerical child
abuse have met to outline their reaction to the damning investigation
into the Cork diocese.
The private meeting, organised by the
Association of Catholic Priests, took place 48 hours after one Cloyne
priest -- Fr Joseph McGuane, a chaplain in St Raphael's community
hospital in Youghal -- said there was "a culture of fear" within the
diocese and that clerics needed to speak out.
It was expected that
between 20 and 30 Cloyne priests attended the meeting in
the Ovens Parish Centre.
The diocese has 133 clerics and the meeting was
open to all priests who wished to attend.
