Monsignor Štefan Secka was born on 6 July 1953 in
Špissky' Štvrtok, in the diocese of Spis.
After completing his studies
in the Higher Seminary of Bratislava on 6 June 1976, he was ordained
priest of the diocese of Spis.
Between 1978 and 1980, he was Vicar of
Špisska' Nova' Ves and Vicar of Dolny' Kubi'n between 1980 and 1984.
Up
until 1990 he worked as parish Administrator in Liptovske' Revu'ce.
In
1990 he was appointed as Vice-Rector of the Higher Seminary of Spis.
In 1997 he obtained a degree in theology from the
Catholic University of Lublin in Poland and in 2000 he completed a PhD
in the Faculty of Theology at the Comenius University in Bratislava.
On
28 June 2002 he was appointed Titular Bishop of Sita and Auxilliary
Bishop of Spis.
He received the Episcopal consecration on 27 July 2002.
In the diocese he acted as President Pro tempore
of the Liturgical Commission and was a member of the Catechist
Commission.
As a member of the Slovakian Episcopal Conference, he is in
charge of Caritas Slovakia and is also a member of the Liturgical
Commission.
In addition, he organises catechesis courses and provides
pastoral care to the Rom population.
