Pope John Paul II bust was unveiled during the ceremony the Apostolic
Nunciature of Romania organized in Bucharest, in front of the Schitu
Magureanu Church.
The event was the initiative of the Apostolic Nunciature of Romania
in cooperation with Bucharest City Hall and it was staged in the memory
of the historic visit Pope John Paul II had paid to Romania, on May 7-9,
1999, and celebrated the beatification of Pope John Paul II on May 1,
2011.
Made of bronze the bust is the work by Slovenian sculptor of Bosnian
origin Mirsad Begic, one of the best known and most valued artist in the
country.
Ut unum sint (Latin for 'All may be One." a phrase, taken from St.
John's Gospel (John 17:11) reads the inscription at the base of the
bust.
Apostolic Nuncio of Romania Archbishop Francisco-Javier Lozano's
address paid homage to the gigantic Pope John Paul II the highest moral
authority of our times.'
'When passing by the monument, we'll remember this Pope a defender of
life and human rights, an advocate for the weakest and the abandoned,
this promoter of ecumenism,' said Archbishop Francisco-Javier Lozano.
The Holy Sees official to Romania pointed out that Pope John Paul II
was a good friend of Romania, of ancient nation, reach in history and
culture.'
He stressed that Pope John Paul II was aware of the important part
Romania has been playing in the dialogue between the Eastern and the
Western culture enriching this family of nations, which the European
Union is.
