Four religious schools in County Clare have been named by the Scoping Inquiry into historical sexual abuse.
In the report, published yesterday, September 3, over 800 people have been accused of more than 2,300 instances of historical sexual abuse at 308 schools run by religious orders across the country.
In County Clare, four schools run by the Christian Brothers were mentioned in the report.
Primary school Ennis CBS had two allegations and two alleged abusers. Primary school Kilrush CBS also had two allegations against two alleged abusers.
Secondary school Ennistymon CBS had two allegations and one alleged abuser. While Primary school Ennistymon CBS had one allegation against one alleged abuser.
The report reads that sexual abuse happened between the 1960s and the early 1990s, with the highest number of reported incidents occurring in the early to mid-1970s.
The report heard from many survivors who said that “their childhood stopped the day the abuse started.”
