Church congregation couldn't hear church mass because of breaking bottles outside

Churchgoers attending ceremonies at a Naas church were unable to hear mass being said because of the sound of smashing bottles.

Local councillor Anne Breen said this was the reason why a bottle bank was removed from the site of the Church of the Irish Martyrs in Ballycane.

“People couldn’t hear the mass because of the bottles,” Cllr Breen said.

Fellow councillor Evie Sammon asked Kildare County Council to find a permanent location for the bottle banks previously located at Fairgreen, Naas, which were removed because of major roads works taking place in the area.

Cllr Sammon suggested that the banks be located away from the town centre to a place where there is room for people to drive and pull in, such as the Naas Retail Park.

Cllr Seamie Moore suggested that Aras Chill Dara, KCC’s head office, would be an ideal location and Millennium Park was also suggested as an alternative location.

KCC official Donal Hodgins said the banks taken from Fairgreen are being stored and “can be reinstated to an alternative location once this is identified.”
